Default Crazy welder idea

I have a whacked out idea to make a 200 amp mig. Use one of the plentiful 225 AC/DC arc welders that are out there, then hook up the DC side to a wire feed from a 120 amp Lincoln I have, replace the gun to a 225 or 400 amp model, and scavenge the the gas regulator from the same Lincoln.

Think it will work, or have I been standing too close to the paint shop?

It's an old lincoln 225..You're right...shipping would cost more than an inexpensive mig machine...lol

Better idea, I may be able to trade my little 115V Lincoln for a 220V Snap-On. Just needs a drive motor for the wire feed supposedly. It's at least worth a look.

I did some checking around and found out that the Miller 145/180(similar to the Lincoln I have, different feed system) are basically the same thing; except for the main transformer and how it gets wired in. I may be able to, as the Aussies say, "hot-up" my welder that way.
