Hi guys im a newbe with the muscle cars im 18 and have some questions , I started to work on a project its a 1977 malibu , i built a motor its a 350 bored 20 over with flat top pistons and a corvette cam , Balanced crank shaved heads hooker headers , and a aluminium intake , i have a carb that supose to be off a 327 i thought would be a good start , but all the gaskets are dried up , So where do i start ., what size jets , squirters and how to determen how many CFM it is , Thanks
Chris
Holley carbs have a list number on the airhorn..looking at the front of the carb it will be on the right side...something like 3310 or some other 4 digit number.. That will tell you what size it is.Not too many 327s came with Holley carbs but a few did. Other things to look for are how many fuel feed lines and how many accelerator pumps does it have.
Thanks Guys , The Carb is not originaly off a 327 the guy made a modified 327 and then put this carb on , He said it worked good but im not sure how much to trust him , Might have been just to sell it , It is a Double pumper it has the 2 accelerator pumps and it the fuel line is a 1 into 2 to the seperate float bowls . Im going to try and find the number on it , im haveing a little rough of a time i have to dig the car out , it is currantly sitting under a tarp under 1.5 ft of snow , , , i plan on digging it out this weekend and pull the carb off , I plan on re building the carb and jetting it for the car, Would you guys be able to tell me what size jets roughly should be in it when i get the modle number down , And if its a goood size carb for the car , I was looking at Edlebrock carbs at the parts shop but im not to sure about how well they preform , There cheap . . . and kind of resemble a rochester so im not sure what do you guys think
I like the Edelbrock carb..It's actually closer to the Carter AFB than to the Rochester...They are a lot more reliable than the Holley although the holley is a little bit faster if you don't mind working on it more...Double pumpers are more of a race carb and will definitely use a lot more fuel than a single pump/vacuum secondary carb..
650 with vacuum secondaries depending on what cam it is. If the cam is more for high rpm go with a 700. Edelbrock or Holley, doesnt matter much its all preference.
If its a stock Vette cam the double pumper would probably run like crap anyway.
